Rescue Foundation celebrated Women’s day in Aiud Penitentiary, a traditional event for the two institutions. The theme we choused was:”The story of my life” and the message we wanted to transmit was about changes in our lives. There are a few things we have to take into consideration when we decide that it’s time to make changes in our lives: we have to understand what we did wrong, we have to accept that there is a mistake in out past and we have to know to ask for help. We listened to a few life stories; one of the stories was presented by Ileana Soporan who emphasized the importance of accepting our past. Our team also presented a few scenes from a Romanian movie that tells the story of one women who was imprisoned and found her hope in faith. The story presented in the movie was similar to their detention experience and their reaction was amazing: they understood that it’s very hard to be imprisoned but there were times in Romania when being in prison was worse. They could identify possibilities to make changes in their life because they have some control over their life even if they are in prison.
Some of the inmates talked about their life in prison, about how painful is to be apart from the family and children. They advised their colleagues to live right after being released so that they never to come back into prison.
We also had time to discuss in small groups, to enjoy cakes, coffee and juice. It was a good opportunity to listen to their stories, to feel their emotions, to give a good advice.
The surprise for them was the presence of a few hairdressers who were ready to help them with a haircut, hair-styling, make-up. At the end of the meeting each woman got a small present.
It was so much fun. They enjoyed our meeting and they felt special. Our purpose was achieved.
