RESCUE - CENTER FOR SOCIAL AND SPIRITUAL ASSISTANCE AND SUPPORT OF THE PEOPLE WHO ARE IN PRISON

 • Projects - The first groups of inmates graduated the rehabilitation program “Thinking for a change”

The rehabilitation program “Thinking for a Change” was implemented in Aiud Penitentiary with two groups of people in detention, men and women. The program had weekly meetings for about 5 months. On Thursday, the 12 of April all the participants to this program were celebrated and we offered them participation certificates. They had a time for sharing their impressions about the efficiency of the program, and modalities to apply what they have learned in the program in their day by day life.
The program also has a follow-up period for inmates during their detention time. Each of the participants will have to fill in a thinking report. After 10 weeks we will have another meeting to evaluate and give feedback to the thinking reports. We have selected 3 inmates to participate together with the psychologist form Aiud Penitentiary to implement the program for other groups of inmates.
The purpose of Rescue Foundation was to bring in Romania a rehabilitation program used in the American prison system and to apply it with the help of the Peace Corps volunteer, Jim groves, who is a therapist with experience in therapeutic programs in prison. We also realized the program in collaboration with Aiud Penitentiary to make sure that the program will be continued, one of the psychologist working with Rescue team.
The last part of the meeting was an auto-reflection game. They had to think about their lives and to evaluate if they are satisfied with it, to identify the good things they lived, to decide what they do with the regrets, to identify what else do they need in their life to be happy with themselves and how to live their lives after being released. Their answers were sincere and impressionable. We consider a success the fact they can build a positive perspective of their life and that they can identify the changes they need to do in order to reintegrate in the community.
