RESCUE - CENTER FOR SOCIAL AND SPIRITUAL ASSISTANCE AND SUPPORT OF THE PEOPLE WHO ARE IN PRISON

 • Woman's Day in Aiud Penitentiary

On the 6Th of March 2008, members from "Rescue" Humanitarian Foundation  and a group of volunteers have celebrated Woman's day together with the women that are imprisoned at the Penitentiary of Aiud. The theme was "Priceless moments".

We talked about those intense moments in our lives when tears stream down our faces, tears of joy, sorrow, grief, suffering, loneliness, etc, starting with the Psalm 56:8

“Record my lament; list my tears on your scroll are they not in your record?”

How are we when we have tears in our eyes? How does God see those moments? These moments were they only events in our lives or were they gates that open the way to the Kingdom in our lives? Ramona Rus- Rescue volunteer- spoke about this theme.

Ioana Nandrean recited then Psalm 139. We've got to mention here that we were all overwhelmed with emotion, even us, who have read that passage in Scripture so many times! The slide show that was put up while she was reciting this psalm made the words so much easier to understand, and the women were impressed.

After a short musical moment, we had some cake, coffee and soft-drinks with the ladies in the penitentiary. Also because we wanted that day to be memorable we set up a mini photo studio and each woman was able to have her picture taken, and they will the print outs the next time they will meet the members of our foundation.

Another special moment of our meeting was when each woman made a bracelet, together with Mrs Lynne De Lanno- Peace Corps volunteer. We want to thank Lynne for all her effort in making the bracelets and also for her kindness in providing all the supplies for the making of them with the women.

At the end of our meeting each woman got a flowers and a present that was made up of a pair of sandals, deodorant, tooth brush and paste, soap, shower gel, hygienic pads, nylons, a Lydia magazine, a pen and a card.

This special day was made possible for the women in the Penitentiary of Aiud because of the following volunteers:

Ramona Rus- main speaker, Ioana Nandrean- recited Psalm 139; Remus Buzugan- sound and photos, Lynne De Lanno- Peace Corps Volunteer and financier, Hojlund Marianne - Rescue volunteer and financier, Cristina Muresan- Rescue volunteer and financier, Anca Brasfalean- reporter for the radio

Impressions from Cristina Muresan- student at the Theology High school, Emanuel

The 6Th of March, spent with the women imprisoned in Aiud to celebrate Woman's day (8Th of March) was a day of joy, also a day of tears, a day in which my sensitive and fragile side, specific to every woman, broke through the hard wall, build in prison, and tears of joy, sadness, sorrow, longing, regret, and a profound need of God broke through. He is the Hope, Help, Shelter, Peace, Joy, Tranquility, Courage, Harmony... the ONLY one that can change a heart.

"Rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn." (Romans 12:15)

For the first time I had the opportunity to talk with women that are being detained and i feel part of their pain and frustrations that duel between those walls. I thank God that he has given me the occasion to listen, to encourage and to drip a bit of hope in a hopeless heart.

The visit to Aiud on the 6Th of March with Rescue was beautiful play in several acts: first the empty room, plain cold... transformed with a few moves in a room illuminated by the personal cards, set on tables, friendly table clothes, the noise of coming guests. Then a piece of a movie the message of some young girls aimed to crack the hopeless apathy... then cake, coffee, making the bracelets (with the supplies that the volunteers brought along.), the photo shoot... and if i had to put all of it into one word, i think this would be "normality". Or maybe better still, "love".
