Saturday, on 19th May in Rescue Foundation organized a meeting for rescue’s volunteers and collaborators. It was a more special and intimate meeting because one of Rescue’s employees is very sick.
Our guests were: Thorkil Jorgensen, Karsten Miller Moses Hansen as well as a group of children who grew up in an orphanage but today they are living independently.
The topic of the meetings was authentic faith in communist and post-communist Romania. Moses Hansen was one of the western Christians involved in underground networks for distribution of Bibles and Christian literature in countries behind the Iron Gate.
Our young guests had a chance to listen the way faith was valued those times and about the persecutions Christian people had to suffer. Moses talked about their visit in Romanian families, poor families but full of love for Christ, in any moment ready to take the risk and confess The Word of God to other people. One story Moses reminded was an invitation to a Romanian dinner in a poor family with many children where the only menu was potatoes, potatoes and potatoes….but cooked in various ways with great attention for the Danish guests. He was impressed by the prayer they made for the food, for their guests, even if the food was poor and not enough. Moses also talked about the Christian meetings in houses, every time a different house, so that they could not be supervised and suspected to go to a meeting. The time for all people coming to a gathering was very long, they had to walk two by two eliminate any suspicion of their neighbors. Nowadays people still have difficulties in being in time at church, but the reason in different.
What Moses remarked was the faith of Romanians due to the poor living condition they had. He compared Romanian’s living level and their faith to Danish living level and faith. He concluded that western faith was cold, empty. In Romania in that time he had seen the necessity to tell Danish about their spiritual emptiness they were living in. The call of Moses for Romania’s today generation who is free to manifest their beliefs not to forget about their life purpose and about the real values of Christianity, to be aware of the risk of living in spiritual emptiness and be concerned only about how to make more many and a good living.
The choir of children brought joy in our souls. It was amazing to see spiritual adults who once received help and knew how to live their life. They are winners. They have a job now and live in apartments. Their rehabilitation was a success.
The evening was special because our unity in praying. We prayed for our colleague and asked for God’s hand upon him. His accident was a signal for young people whom he knew that is time for them to give Christ the right place in their lives.
